Originally authored in 1963 by Philippe Ledoux and reissued in subsequent years, Napolèon is a jacquard carré depicting images from the life of the "Little General". Woven into the silk are a series of bees, representing imperial power and resurrection. Along with these royal insects are five vignettes based on paintings by several French artists such as Jacques-Loius David and Pierre Gautherot, depicting what can be argued as the most significant moments in Napoleon's life.
This 90 cm silk scarf is crisp to the touch and has plump hems, but examine photos six through nine closely as these capture some tiny flaws. Pay extra close attention to photo 8 and be SURE to zoom in to see all four corners of this iconic scarf.
Page 156 of Carré d'Art IV rates Napolèon with a rarity and interest index of two and three respectively.
